GTI Welding Students Compete and Win at Region

The Skills USA, region 1 competition was held at the Tom P Haney Technical Center in Panama City, February 24. Gadsden Technical Institute welding students competed against other welding students from, Tom P Haney Technical Center, Chipola College, Pensicola State College, Florida Panhandle Technical College, Lockland Technical Center, and George Stone Technical Center. Students applied their skills in Welding and Welding Fabrication competitions. The Welding Contest consisted of a written test of welding theory and each student demonstrated their welding skills using the Shielded Metal Arc, Gas Metal Arc, and Gas Tungsten Arc welding processes. The Fabrication contest consisted of a team that interpreted welding prints to fabricate a metal stool to specifications. The fabrication contest required students to work as a team using each of the welding processes used in the welding competition as well as oxy. fuel cutting.

Chad Ptachick, won second place in the Welding secondary division and will be representing Gadsden Technical Institute at the State competition April 27, in Lakeland Florida.
