CACS Home Learning Plan 

Crossroad Academy Charter School is following the lead of Gadsden County Public Schools to close schools for Scholars from March 23, 2020, through May 1, 2020. We will continue to monitor Gadsden County Public Schools for any further limitations and access to schools. In an effort to ensure learning is taking place, Crossroad Academy Charter School shall implement Home Learning Plans effective Monday, March 30, 2020.

 

 

  • Our teachers participated in training call Monday, March 23-27, 2020 to review the implementation of Home Learning Plans.

  • Complete this Technology Survey to help us support your technology needs.

  • Our teachers will use a learning management system such as Google Classroom, Remind messages and phone (via remind, google voice, or school phone) to contact parents and scholars, share class materials and regarding the plan and make learning accessible anywhere.

  • CACS will distribute Chromebooks, as needed, to parents on Friday, March 27, 2020.

  • CACS staff will have a suite of grade-level-appropriate academic tools available to them. This includes access to adapted textbooks, i-Ready, Khan Academy, Studies Weekly, ConnectEd, Springboard and other available resources as provided.

  • Teachers will be available between the hours of 8:30 am - 3:00 pm to provide Scholars with instruction via Google Classroom, email, and telephone.

  • Teachers will record attendance via skyward.

  • Parents can sign up to receive a daily or weekly summary of assignments and activity

  • On Google Classroom, Scholars can expect to see:

    • A Weekly Announcement

    • Instructional Presentations

    • Discussion board

    • Assignments

    • Tutorials

Scholars should log in via CLEVER or directly to the subject area site

 

 

 

Frequently Asked Questions - Family & Community

 

1.Home Learning Plan

  • When the extended spring break ends, we will be prepared to implement our distance learning plan starting  March 30, 2020.

  • To support students with identified IEP-related services please contact the school for additional information.

  • Teachers will be available between 9:00 am & 3:00 pm and will publish their contact times for each course.

 

3. What are the expectations for the first week 3/23-3/27?

 

4. What does it mean for a student to work at home?

  • Teachers will be available during normal school hours.  Scholars can complete and submit assignments within flexible deadlines from their own home learning space.

 

5. What types of things will scholars be expected to do?

  • Communicate with teachers is a top priority.  Scholars will be expected to continue using the same digital learning programs they have been accustomed to.

  • I ready, math nation, springboard, khan academy, studies weekly, and ConnectEd are platforms the kids have already been using.

  • If you’ve ever taken an online course, the expectation is similar. Scholars will be expected to complete lesson course modules with lesson instruction, activities, submissions, discussions, and assessments.

  • We will continue to grade assignments and record grades.

 

6. What if your scholar is unable to access online content?

  • We will provide hard copies of similar content. 

  • We can also assist with helping you to get connected.

  • Hard copies must be picked up and returned to the school during normal school hours

 

7. How has COVID-19 impacted state assessments? 

  • All state and national exams have been canceled for now. 

  • VPK exams have been canceled.

  • FSA/FCAT exams have been canceled* The assessment requirement for graduating seniors 2020 has been waived. Seniors are expected to finish spring courses.  Graduation will be based on credits & GPA. The 30% EOC rule has been waived for this current year only.

  • *students enrolled in Algebra 1 EOC and Grade 10 FSA, must still meet graduation requirements. Those students will be required to retake the exam or obtain a concordant score through the SAT. Algebra 1 students may use Geometry to meet the requirement.

  • SAT/PSAT/ACT has been canceled. AP exams have not yet been decided.

  • There will be no school grades.

  • Dual enrollment students are expected to complete all courses this semester online.  Information for Dual enrollment summer registration is forthcoming.

 

8. How will we address student attendance, grades & promotion?

  • Course completion. It is expected that scholars receive a year’s worth of instruction in all courses.  Therefore, all students (especially seniors) are expected to fully complete coursework to be awarded credit.  

  • Grading: We are training our teachers on timelines and flexibility with submitting work in an online setting. However, we are tasked with collecting, grading assignments, along with reporting quarterly and final grades. 

  • Promotion: Our scholars’ promotions including grade 3, will be evaluated on school-level assessments and classroom performance.

  • Student attendance: Verifying student attendance will be based on a combination of communication with the teacher and work submitted. 

 

9. When may I come to the campus?

  • We understand you may want to come and gather items you need for school.  Our campus will be open from 9:30am -1:30 pm; M-F. However, please understand everything needed will be available in a digital format. There should not be a need to enter the campus. Entrance to campus will be determined on an as-needed basis.

 

10. Will the school undergo a deep cleaning?

  • Yes, the school will be cleaned daily.  As we get closer to reopening, a deeper cleaning may occur.

 

A few other issues impacted

  • EOY activities: All EOY activities have been canceled until further notice. This includes EOY trips, proms, balls, graduations PK-8, and athletics.  No decision has been made on Senior banquet and graduation yet. Current trip refunds are being processed this week and should be available Requests for refunds should be made on March 30, 2020.
